Bushcare

What is Buschare & why is it important?

Bushcare is all about community volunteers working together to rehabilitate and conserve bushland in local areas. It is important to restore these natural greenspaces and remove invasive weeds to enable native plants to “bounce back” through natural regeneration. Strategically removing weeds also helps conserve native plants that are endemic to an area or helps endangered plants and threatened ecosystems provide habitat for wildlife.

Bushcarer’s are mainly involved in weeding but volunteers may also attend to other tasks such as, planting or mulching. There is no experience or plant knowledge required to be a volunteer but you will need a general level of fitness. Bushcare volunteers learn about plants and weed identification and the best practice to remove weeds. Whilst you do some physical exercise you also get to meet new like-minded people in the community. Plus, time in nature can improve your mental health and wellbeing.

All you need to bring is a hat, water bottle and gloves. Please wear long sleeved shirts and trousers and wear comfortable closed in shoes.
