Workshop: Butterfly Identification with Cliff Meyer
Saturday, October 28 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
We invite you to learn about butterflies, their differences and how to identify them, which will support you and our fourth season of Brisbane’s Big Butterfly Count. In this relaxed setting you’ll obtain some great knowledge while having fun along the way.
Around 160 butterflies call Brisbane home. They couldn’t be more different from each other with the large families of Skippers and Blues being particularly difficult to identify because of their small size and colour patterns, but even larger ones can be easily mistaken for another species.
We are fortunate to have Cliff Meyer conducting this workshop. Cliff continues to be instrumental for Brisbane’s Big Butterfly Count. He will be sharing his vast knowledge and allowing us to benefit from decades of experience identifying, researching and scientifically describing species. Anyone who knows Cliff also knows that learning is easy when having fun, and that his enthusiasm and love of butterflies are contagious. He will give us an introduction and overview.
Let’s go to work identifying butterfly specimens with boxes rotated between teams. Field guides and magnifying glasses will support your efforts. Who knows which team will win and take a little prize away.
A healthy morning tea is, of course, part of our workshop.
Brisbane’s Big Butterfly Count is supported by Brisbane City Council, Queensland Government, and the Wettenhall Environment Trust.
Mark the date. Registration details will be coming soon.
